457,839. Motor - vehicle axles and driving-gearing. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Tatra Works Ltd. Motor Car & Railway Carriage & Wagon Builders ; 200, Kartouzska, Smichov, Prague) Nov. 20, 1935, No. 32191. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iv)] The pivoted half-axles 18, 19 of a motor vehicle which embrace pairs of bevel wheels 8, 12 and 9, 13 transmitting the drive from a longitudinal shaft 1 to the axle shafts 12a, 13a, are mounted on a continuous member 10 which carries exteriorly the front and rear bearings 14, 15 for the inner fork-ends of the half axles and has internal bearings 10a for the longitudinal driving shaft. In the construction shown, the member 10 is a one-piece tube and is secured to a central tubular chassis frame member 22, 23. The differential gear 3 is mounted on the shaft 1 and drives the bevel gears 8, 9 through tubular shafts 6, 7. The member 10 is secured to a two-part casing 21, and may be removed together with the driving gear and the half-axles as a unit. The bearings 14, 15 for the half-axles face each other and are retained on the member 10 by rings 20.
