426,076. Motor-vehicle driving-gear; axles. ETABLISSEMENTS LAFFLY, 82, Rue du Vieux Pont de Sevres, Billancourt, Seine, France. Dec. 30, 1933, No. 36724. Convention date, Nov. 24. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iv)] In a motor vehicle having front non-driving steering wheels, a differential gear D and a gear-box V situated in the immediate vicinity of the engine M, and two transmission shafts A<1>, A<2> driving the rear wheels, these two shafts are arranged substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and adjacent to and on the inner sides of the chassis frame longitudinals so that the central space between the shafts A<1>, A<2> is available to receive a lower central part of the body (not shown). In the construction shown, the shafts drive the rear wheels through bevel gearing r<1>, r<2> enclosed in casings c<1>, c<2> united by an axle member F having a lowered central part. The wheel axles a<1> may be horizontal as shown in Fig. 4, or inclined to suit the road camber as shown in Fig. 6. The gear casings c', c<2> may be united by a straight horizontal tube instead of the axle F. The differential gear case c may be separate from the gear-box V as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be fixed to the gear-box. Two rear driving axles may be provided, each shaft A<1>, A<2> driving a pair of wheels arranged tandem-wise, a differential gear being provided between each pair of wheels if desired. The driving wheels may be independently sprung.
