478,857. Articulated motor vehicles ; tractors. ZAVODY TATRA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST PRO STAVBU AUTOMOBILU A ZELEZNICNICH VOZU. Jan. 12, 1937, No. 897. Convention date, Jan. 29. 1936. [Classes 79 (i), 79 (ii), and 79 (iii)] An articulated motor vehicle or tractor having two parts 1, 2 pivoted together for steering is characterized by an engine 5 placed coaxially over the pivot of the parts 1, 2 and driving the wheels through a vertical shaft 6. In the construction shown the engine shaft 6 passes through the hollow shaft of a bevel wheel 8 to a change-speed gear 7 which drives the axles 3, 4 through the bevel wheel 8, bevel gears 9, 10 and shafts 11, 12. The chassis part 2 is formed with forked arms 2a, 2b embracing the part 1, the engine 5 being carried by the upper fork arm and the changespeed gear by the lower arm. The part 2 also carries the driver's seat 16 and the steering wheel 15, a pinion 14 on the lower end of the steering-wheel shaft gearing with a gear wheel 13 on the chassis part 1.
