Abstract

484,215. Motor vehicle steering - gear. STEYR - DAIMLER - PUCH AKT.- GES. Nov. 6, 1936, No. 30323. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1935. [Class 79 (v)] Steering-gear comprising a toothed rack 1 moving transversely of the vehicle, is provided with a member, preferably a two-armed lever 5, for increasing the transmission ratio between the steering hand wheel and the road wheels, so that any desired ratio can be obtained independently of the size of the pinion 2 gearing with the rack. In the construction shown the member or lever 5 is situated between the rack and the road wheels. The pinion 2 is on the shaft of the steering hand wheel, and the rack 1 is connected to the lever 5 which is pivoted at 4 and is connected at 7, 8 to divided track rods 6, 6<1>. The road wheels are independently sprung by means of springs 10. A mechanical or hydraulic shock absorber 12 controls the lever 5. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subjectmatter of Specification 484,216. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
