424,170. Motor-vehicle steering-gear. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES., Untert³rkheim, Stuttgart, Germany. Feb. 13, 1934, No. 25040. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1933. Divided out of 416,635, [Group XXXII]. [Class 79 (v)] Steering-gear for independently-sprung wheels comprises a steering-arm e<1> directly actuated by the steering-gear m and connected by a link l to another arm e<2>, the arms being connected by other links f<1>, f<2> to the steering-arms i<1>, i<2> of the stub axles, and the links f<1>, f<2> being arranged to swing in substantially the same arc as the stub axles. In the construction shown, the stub axles are mounted on the ends of upper and lower rods a<1>, a<2> having their inner ends pivoted to the frame on axes parallel to the longitudinal lines x<1>, x<2>, the movements of the rods being controlled by coil springs d<1>, d<2> as described in Specification 416,635. The worm wheel of the steering-gear m is preferably fixed on the pivot shaft of the arm e<1>. The gear may be readily arranged for right- and left-hand steering, the only change being the mounting of the steering-gear on the arm e<2> or e<1>. The whole of the steering-gear is preferably arranged as shown behind the wheel axles.
