Abstract

263,060. Loehr, T. L. Aug. 3, 1926. Hand-wheels.-The steering-wheel of a motor vehicle is provided with intergeared twisting hand-grips which are geared to a reciprocatory sleeve mounted in the wheel hub and adapted to control the throttle, the steering-pillar also enclosing other control mechanism. The rotary hand-grips 20 are intergeared by bevel pinions 22. A pair of diametrically opposite spokes 13 are fitted with rack bars 15 which engage at their outer ends with pinions 17 engaging with the adjacent pinions 22, while the inner ends of the rack bars engage pinions 16 gearing with the grooved head 24 of a reciprocable sleeve 23 mounted in the hub 10. The reciprocable sleeve may be connected to the throttle valve. An inner rotary sleeve 26 controlled by a lever 27 may be connected to the ignition system.
