Abstract
743,027. Motor vehicles driving gear. KIRKSTALL FORGE ENGINEERING, Ltd., and WILSON, R. H. June 3, 1954 [July 17, 1953], No. 19872/53. Class 79 (2). A two-axle bogie for a road vehicle incorporates in each axle hub reduction gearing and a differential gear 14 driven through a bevel drive which in the case of at least one axle is a hypoid bevel drive with the centre line of the hypoid pinion located above the axis of rotation of the hypoid crown-wheel. In the embodiment both axles have hypoid bevel drives driven by coaxial shafts 27 and 28 which emerge from the power-driven differential 22. The hypoid pinion 19 is offset from the axis of the crownwheel 20 to allow the shaft 28 room to pass over the axle 12 to drive the second axle through a cardan shaft 29. The hub reduction gearing comprises a sun-wheel 15 and a plurality of planet wheels 16.
