986,278. Differential gears. HARRY FERGUSON RESEARCH Ltd. April 23, 1963 [May 1, 1962], No. 16560/62. Heading F2D. [Also in Division B7] In a motor vehicle (see. Division B7) the front and rear axle differential gears are driven through a differential gear, of the kind in which the output shafts are permitted to differ in relative speed only within predetermined limits, having output bevel gears 14, 15 meshing with bevel gears 13 mounted on oblique axes to provide different torque outputs to the front and rear axle drive shafts 17, 16. The differential casing 12 is split on the conical surface through the axes of the bevel gears 13.
