Abstract

814,210. Change-speed gearing. AUTO UNION G.m.b.H. Oct. 8, 1956, No. 30628/56. Class 80 (2). In a transmission system for a motor vehicle a supplemental reduction gear 4 is positioned between the motor and the change-speed gear. The drive from the engine clutch passes from a shaft 3 to a two-speed gear 4, actuated by dog clutch element 7, and thence to an input shaft 6 of a change-speed gear. The change-speed gear output shaft 14 drives a differential 5 for one pair of road wheels, and may be clutched at 16 to a shaft driving the other pair of wheels.
