Class 80 (ii) [Also in Group XXXI] A tractor transmission includes clutched reverse-gear 11, ahead of a selective change-speed gear 12 and operable by an independent lever linked to a rocker 29, to permit reversal without disturbing the setting of the change-speed lever 39, and the reverse-gear comprises an output shaft 19 driven by a parallel input shaft 15 through forward and reverse gear-pairs 24, 22 and 25, 23, the latter including an idler 25A, rendered effective by friction disc-clutches 20, 21 which replace the usual main-clutch and are freely mounted on the input shaft 15 and selectively engaged, through the rocker 29, by sliding a common member non-rotatably mounted on the input shaft 15 between the two clutches. The reverse-gear output shaft 19 forms the input of the three-speed gear 12 and has two sliding wheels 33 and 34, 35, controlled by the lever 39 and selectively driving wheels fast on a parallel output shaft 43. The highspeed fast wheel 42 drives a power take-off shaft 44 through a clutch 49, controlled by a lever on a rocker 50. The change-speed gear output shaft 43 carries a bevel-pinion 52 driving a transverse shaft 57 having two simple disc-clutches driving the respective tracksprockets 78 through reducing-gears and controlled, for steering, by separate levers such as 88. Fig. 6 (not shown) replaces the steering disc-clutches by three-element planetary trains acting as clutches by means of brake-bands on their reaction ring-gears. Additional brakes are provided for holding the inside tracksprocket on a sharp turn.
