Abstract
978,037. Differential gear. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. July 18, 1963 [July 28, 1962], No. 28478/63. Heading F2D. [Also in Division B7] A driving and steering gear for a tracked vehicle comprises a change-speed gear 2 from which track sprockets are driven through planet trains 3, 4, having suns geared at 15, 16 to a steering shaft 14 that is selectively driven from the change-speed gear through either a bevel reverse gear 5 or a reversible hydrostatic gear 17. The steering shaft 14 is driven in either direction through the reverse gear 5 by selective engagement of hydraulically operated clutches 6, 7 for field work, whilst for greater manoeuvrability during road travel the shaft 14 is driven through the hydrostatic gear 17, a reduction gear 12, as shown, hydraulically operated clutch 13. Pressure fluid is selectively supplied to the clutches 6, 7, 13 through valves 19, 20, the former 19 of which is linked at 17c, 17b to the hydrostatic gear control lever 17a so that when the lever 17a is in an intermediate position pressure fluid is supplied to the clutch 13 whilst when the lever 17a is in its high speed forward or reverse end position the clutch 13 is disengaged and pressure fluid is supplied to the clutch 6 or 7. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the clutch 13 is replaced by two oppositely acting one-way clutches which are arranged so that one is disengaged for both directions of rotation whilst the other operates in one direction. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the hydrostatic gear is permanently connected to the steering shaft 14 and a by-pass valve in the circuit of the hydrostatic gear is opened when the clutch 6 or 7 is engaged.
