Abstract

1,206,935. Driving front and rear wheels. WINGET Ltd. 14 Feb., 1968 [14 Nov., 1966], No. 50927/66. Heading B7H. A transfer gear-box for a wheeled vehicle is adapted to receive auxiliary and main rotary input drives 3, 14 from a gear-box and transfers them by two gear trains 6, 10, 11, 12 and 15, 16B, 16C, 17 respectively to an auxiliary output drive 13 and to main and forward output drives 18, 19 adapted to drive rear and forward wheels of a vehicle, the axes of the input and output drives being vertically offset from one another and a clutch mechanism 20 being disposed between the main and forward drives. The clutch mechanism 20 includes a dog clutch controlled by a lever 22 and the distance between the output axes is preferably the same as the distance between the input axes. The hollow shaft 4 driven by the auxiliary input shaft 3 carries an internally splined sleeve 8 to provide a second auxiliary output drive and a gear 7 which drives a lubricant pump 25. The transfer gear-box may be attached directly to a rear axle housing of a tractor or the main output shaft 18 may be connected to a separate rear axle casing by a flexible transmission shaft.
