Abstract
796,542. Vehicle driving gear. FERGUSON, Inc., H. Aug. 23, 1954 [Sept. 3, 1953]. No. 24417/54. Class 79(2) The outboard wheel 11 of an implement adapted to be side-mounted on a tractor 10 is driven through a device 57 having input and output gears 69, 70, the gear 70 being connected by a shaft 53 to the wheel 11 and the gear 69 being connectible to the adjacent live rear axle 18 of the tractor, the device 57 bein connected about the axis of the gear 69 to the implement frame 12 by a link 79 to swing in response to up-and-down movement of the implement relative to the tractor. As shown, the implement is connected to rock about the central longitudinal axis of the tractor the frame 12 being provided with a forward jack 40, a rearward wheel 41 and the outboard wheel 11. The wheel 11 is driven from the rear axle 18 through a flange connection between the shaft 18 and the input shaft 22 of the device 57. The device 57 comprises a two-part casing 64 housing the chain sprocket gears 69, 70 of a ratio to compensate for the difference of diameter between the tractor wheel 16 and the implement wheel 11. The wheeel 16 is rotatably mounted on the shaft 22 at 26 and the shafts 18, 22 can be braked by means of a brake drum 24. The driving sprocket 69 is splined to the shaft 24, and when desired the sprocket can be replaced by a coupling sleeve, Fig. 7 (not shown), whereby the shaft 22 drives the tractor wheel 16. The output shaft 60 of the device 57 is formed integrally with the sprocket 70 and is splined for connection with a universal joint 61 which is connected by the telescopic shaft 53 and another universal joint 61 to the stub axle of the wheel 11.
