Abstract

617,726. Walk-type tractors. MULSIFIER CORPORATION. Oct. 24, 1946, Nos. 31607 and 31608. Convention dates, Nov. 5, 1945, and Sept. 6, 1946. [Classes 79 (i), 79 (ii) and 79 (iv)] [Also in Group I] A power-driven cultivating machine comprises a walk-type tractor mounted on two driven front wheels 6 and an adjustable rear caster wheel 65, a transverse rotary tiller (see Group I) being mounted.between the front and rear wheels. The main frame includes a longitudinal tubular housing 4 containing coaxial shafts 15, 17 which drive the wheels 6 and the tiller shaft 20 respectively, through worms 14 and 18 and worm-wheels 13, 19. The motor drives two gear trains 27, 29, 31, 33 and 30, 34, 36, through a friction clutch 23, the gear drive 30-36 being of a fixed ratio. The gearwheel 33 is free on the shaft 15 to which it may be keyed by an axially-slidable dog clutch element 37. Alternatively, the shafts 15, 17 may be rotated at the same speed by engaging the clutch element with the gear-wheel 36 keyed to the shaft 17. The frame is completed by a rectangular frame 42 surrounding the chassis and supported rearwardly by upstanding bars 48. The bars 48 carry steering handles 77 and a lever 69 for raising and lowering the caster wheel to alter the depth of cultivation of the tiller.
