Abstract

[Also in Division A1] An agricultural tool carrier comprises a power unit 17 with reversible drive wheels 5 and means 13, 15, 16 for attaching an implement and a frame portion 3 with extensions 19 selectively engageable within alternative boxes 18 in the opposite ends of the power unit and having provision for an operator to face towards or away from the power unit. The attachment means for an implement comprise a drawbar bracket 16, power take-off shaft 13 and a pair of lift arms 15 which are pivoted at 65 to the power unit and are lifted by cams 63 on shaft 61 when the shaft is rotated by hydraulic ram 57 (Fig. 9, not shown). The power unit includes an engine 27 (Fig. 9, not shown) which drives power take-off shaft 13 through clutch 37 and an hydraulic pump 45 which draws in hydraulic fluid from the power unit casing 33 (Fig. 11) and delivers it through valve 71 to hydraulic ram 57 and through reversing valve 81 and variable by-pass control valve 85 to motor 47 which drives the wheels 5. Alternatively, the wheels may be driven through a gear drive. Two pairs of levers 105, 107 on the power unit respectively control lift arm ram 57 and the power take-off clutch actuating fork 39. The frame portion 3 is provided with two levers 97, 99 connected by linkage to the control and reversing valves 85, 81 and so that the operator may face forwards or backwards two pairs of holes 111 and 113 for the pins 110 below the operator's seat 11 and two holes 131, 133 through which steering column 135 may pass to engage with either bevel gear 123 or 125. The bevel gears 123 and 125 mesh with bevel gears 119 and 121 on longitudinal steering shaft 115 and have stub shafts 127, 129 which are engageable with a corresponding socket on the lower end of the steering shaft 135. The steering shaft is held in engagement with one of the stub shafts by rod 137 passing through the centre of shaft 139 with a threaded lower end and a handle 141 at the upper end. The power unit may be used as a " walk-type " tractor by replacing the frame portion 3 with a pair of handles 162 with levers 163 for controlling the reversing and drive control valves 81, 85.
