Abstract

888,441. Tractors. BEATER, L. B., CIAUDANO, F., and CANTATORE, V. April 8, 1958 [Dec. 10, 1957; Jan. 9, 1958], No. 10966/58. Class 79(2). A tractor arranged for two or four wheel drive has a front axle including a differential gear and means are provided connecting the differential gear with the tractor gear box comprising a box 1 which is attached to the speed change gear box of the tractor in place of its cover and comprises a gear wheel 4 slidable on a shaft 5, a gear wheel 9 integral with a bevel wheel 11 and engaging therewith, a bevel wheel 12, which, through a clutch 13, 14, operated by a handle 17, and gears 18 and 19, drives an extensible shaft 20. The gear 4 engages a moveable gear 6 of the speed change box and is rocked on shaft 5 by the same mechanism which rocks the gear 6. Shaft 20 terminates with gears 21, 22 housed in a box 27 attached to the frame of the tractor and driving a shaft 23 through which the front wheels of the tractor may be driven. The gear wheel 9 is of a length appropriate to the lateral movement of gear 4. Alternatively, the device may be applied to a speed change gear box in which a reversing gear is replaced by a gear 36, Fig. 5, and the drive is transmitted through gears 34 and 9a.
