Class 79(5) In a vehicle steering mechanism having a reversible turntable carrying a ground wheel 18 and geared to a steering wheel 34, a pointer 38 in the centre of the steering wheel is geared to the turntable to move in unison therewith. As shown the driven and steerable wheel 18 of a lift truck is connected by a drive-enclosing member 17 to an electric motor 16 to form the turntable mounted on brackets 19, 20. A gear wheel 22 on the motor 16 meshes with a gear 23 connected by a universal jointed shaft 25 to a gear 26, which meshes with a gear 30 operatively connected with the steering wheel 34. The pointer 38 is rotatably mounted in the hub of the wheel 34 and is connected by gear wheels 35, 36 to the shaft 25 to move in unison with and parallel to the wheel 18, the pointer carrying indices F. R whereby the driver may appreciate which way the wheel 18 and hence the truck would be driven. Specification 772,610 [Group XXX], is referred to.
