Class 79(5) A steering wheel 13, Fig. 2, is coupled to the steering mechanism through a flexible shaft 8 which is capable of transmitting torque. The shaft 8 is rotatably mounted in bearings (not shown) in a housing 4 attached to the bulkhead 3 by a cranked arm 5 which may be locked in one of two positions for right hand or left hand drive. A length of flexible shaft between the wheel 13 and the housing 4 renders the wheel 13 flexible and reduces injury to the driver in the event of a crash.
