917,914. Taking up slack of flexible members. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO. Ltd. Sept. 11, 1961 [Feb. 2, 1961], No. 3976/61. Class 78 (2). [Also in Group XXVIII] A winding mechanism for electrical cable, hose or other elongated flexible member 1 comprises a main rotatable reservoir 2 from which the flexible member 1 passes to an auxiliary reservoir 3 both driven at the same rotational speed and a further auxiliary reservoir 4 driven both about the reservoir 3 in the same sense as the rotation thereof and about its own axis, whereby any part of the reservoir 4 always faces in the same direction. As shown, the reservoir 4 is mounted on an axle 13 carried by an arm 5 rotatable about a hollow axle 11. The latter is driven by a worm 14 and gear 15 which causes reservoirs 2, 3 to rotate and drives via gears 9, 10, reservoir 4 about its axis. The arm 5 is rotated about the hollow axle 11 by means of gear 6 fast on shaft 13, idler 7 and fixed gear 8. The ends of the flexible member from reservoir 4 is fixed by means (not shown) to the periphery of that reservoir.
