The housing 5 of a rack- and-pinion steering mechanism is resiliently mounted in a bracket 38 secured to the sprung mass of a vehicle by a preferably rubber member 41 formed in one piece with a gaiter 43 secured to a steering tie-rod 37. A further combined gaiter and mounting member may be used at the other end of the rack 25.
