Abstract

[Also in Division B7] Steering mechanism in a motor vehicle includes a pinion 8 which is disposed on the vehicle centre line at the lower end of a steering column 7 inclined to one side of the vehicle and meshes with a toothed sector 10 connected to respective steerable wheels 3 through track rods 15. The sector is formed on one end of a lever arm 11 linked by the track rods 15 to steering arms 16 on the wheel carriers 17. The pinion 8 and arm 11 are carried by a mounting 12 secured to a bracket 13 beneath a frame cross member 5. A universal coupling 9 connects the pinion 8 to the column 7.
