Abstract

1304251 Steering trailers A KENNIS 20 May 1970 [29 May 1969] 24328/70 Heading B7H Steering mechanism for steering at least one axle 19 of a semi-trailer 2 comprises a fork structure 4 which is connected to the tractor 1 so as to turn relative to the semi-trailer in response to turning of the tractor and is linked to the axle 19 through a system of rods 8. The fork structure 4 is connected to the tractor 1 at alocationi spaced from the coupling-point 3 by a pivotable and longitudinally slidable connection 5, and has two arms connected at points 6 to a forward axle 7 on the semi-trailer 2. The rods 2 are connected at points 6<SP>1</SP> which may coincide with the points 6 to the axle 7 and at their rear ends to a transverse rod 9 pivotally mounted at its centre, the axle 7 and rods 8 and 9 forming a parallelogram linkage. A fork structure 10 connected to the rod 9 is connected to the lower element of a turntable carrying the axle 19 by a pivotable and slidable connection 21. Rod systems for steering the axle of semi-trailers having two or three axles are illustrated diagrammatically in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 (not shown).
