1,156,381. Steering semi-trailers and trailers. A. T. VAN HUET, and W. HILDEBRANDT. 5 Jan., 1967 [7 Jan., 1966], No. 659/67. Heading B7H. A multiple axle bogie for a trailer or semitrailer has one axle 10 steerably mounted through a rotary bearing 11 on a bogie frame 12 connecting an axle 9 with the axle 10, a further main rotary bearing 13 on the frame 12 through which the bogie is connectable to a trailer or semi-trailer frame, a stabilizing member 7 extending forwardly from the bogie frame 12 for connection to a coupling 6 of a tractive vehicle 1 to provide a steering link between the tractive vehicle and the trailer or semitrailer and interconnecting means 17 provided between the non-rotatable part of the main rotary bearing 13 and the axle rotary bearing to steer the axle 10. The means 17 comprises a diagonal link crossing the bogie frame longitudinal axis and the stabilizing member 7 comprises a clevis with divergent arms pivoted at their ends to the bogie frame 12 and receiving at their forward ends in a sleeve or channel support a slidable arm 8 which compensates for variations in the distance between the coupling 6 and the bogie frame. The upper non- rotatable part of the main rotary bearing 13 is connected to the frame through a rocker bearing 14. As shown, a fifth wheel coupling 4 is provided for coupling the semi-trailer and the tractive vehicle 1.
