[Class 79 (v)] A steerable bogie construction for road vehicles comprises a cross beam 1 having a pivot 3 at each end for an independent two-axle truck 6, means to keep the two trucks parallel to each other, and approximately parallel connecting rods 12 between the front or steering wheels A and the cross beam to steer the said front wheels. In the construction shown applied to a trailer vehicle having two bogies, each cross beam 1 is pivoted at 2 to the vehicle body and a draw-bar 11 is fixed to each cross beam. The draw-bar which is at the rear, according to the direction of movement, is held in the central position by stops 15. The two trucks 6 of each bogie are maintained parallel to each other by the means shown in Fig. 3b, toothed sectors 9 on the trucks meshing with a common idler wheel 8 mounted on the pivot 2. When the draw-bar is swivelled by the tractor vehicle the cross-beam 1 turns therewith and, through the rods 12, swivels the front wheels A. Forward movement of the trailer now causes the trucks 6 to align themselves with the wheels A as shown in Fig. 2. The angular movement of the vehicle body and the rear cross-beam 1 relative to the steering wheels of the rear bogie causes these steering wheels and their trucks 6 to swivel as shown at the right of Fig. 2. Each truck 6 comprises arms 6, 7, Figs. 4 and 5, mounted on a shaft 5 carried by a U-shaped member 4 pivoted at 3 to the beam 1. The two arms are connected by a spring 16 fixed at one end of the arm 6.
