Abstract

1300701 Road vehicles; tractor-semi-trailer combinations FIAT SpA 19 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 26953/71 Headings B7H and B7T A road vehicle is formed from a tractor A and a semi-trailer B, such that when the fifth wheel 2 is locked in an intermediate longitudinal position on the tractor chassis, the vehicle is articulated, Fig. 3, and when the fifth wheel is locked in a forward position and the trailer bogie 5 is moved forward with respect to the trailer chassis and locked at E to the tractor chassis, a non-articulated vehicle is formed, Fig. 5. The lock E may consist of a rod passing through aligned apertures in the tractor chassis and trailer bogie, or comprise a forked formation 20 on the end of the tractor chassis which engages between a fixed ring 22 and a spring-biased ring 23 mounted on a pin 21 depending from the trailer chassis. The vehicle in its non-articulated form may tow a further semi-trailer B provided with a front dolly. Further, the semi-trailers B may be provided with bogies 5 which can be removed and replaced by support legs which together with the landing gear 9 allow the trailers to become raised containers.
