Abstract
723,978. Steering vehicles. GEORGI, T., and SCHMITZ, J. Nov. 5, 1951 [Nov. 7, 1950 ; Jan. 23, 1951 ; April 18, 1951], No. 25883/51. Classes 79(3) and 79(5). A vehicle comprises a bogie-like support including front and rear wheel axles, a chassis pivotally mounted on the support for pivotal movement about an axis centrally of the support and between the wheel axles and independent of a positive steering connection to the main steering of the vehicle, at least one of the wheel axles being angularly movable relative to the bogie-like support, and axle shifting means extending from the movable axle toward the other axle and pivotally connected to the chassis for angularly moving the axle when the chassis pivots relative to the support during the execution of a turn by the vehicle. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 a bogie-like support is pivotally connected at a point f to a trailer chassis member h and a rear axle b of the support is also pivotally connected to the member h. Stops g on spring carriers c resting on the axles, limit lateral movement of the latter during steering movement. In the arrangement according to Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) both axles are pivotally connected to the chassis member. Such an arrangement is provided at the front end of a trailer, Fig. 6 (not shown), the trailer being steered by a lever mechanism connected between the towing vehicle and a steerable rear axle. In another arrangement, Fig. 7, the front axle a of the support is pivotally connected, through a member k, k<SP>1</SP> with a pull rod j and with the pivot point f of the support, the rod j being pivotally connected to the chassis member h. In a similar arrangement, Fig. 8 (not shown), the member h is pivotally connected, through lateral extensions thereof, to the carriers c. In the arrangement according to Fig. 9 (not shown) the front axle a is connected to the chassis member by a link pivotally connected to the member rearwardly of the rear axle of the support. In a similar arrangement, Fig. 10, (not shown), the rear axle is also pivotally connected to the chassis member at the pivot point of the support thereto, the chassis member also being pivotally connected through lateral extensions thereof to the carriers c. According to Fig. 11, both axles are pivotally connected with a lever j pivoted to the chassis member h the lever being pivotally connected to a member k by which the support is pivotally connected to the chassis member h. In another arrangement, Fig. 12, in which a support is pivotally arranged on an extension, at each side of the chassis member, the front axle of each support is non-steerable with respect to the rear axle which is pivotally connected to an arm k<SP>1</SP> secured to the chassis extension below the carrier c. In a similar arrangement, Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown), the front axle only is steerable, it being pivotally connected through a link to the arm kl.
