Abstract

736,858. Tractors. LANZ AKT.-GES., H. May 19, 1952 [May 26, 1951 ; May 26, 1951 ; Nov. 26, 1951], No. 12666/52. Classes 79(1), 79(3), 79(4) and 79(5). [Also in Group XXXII] The front unit of a motor driven vehicle comprises a substantially rectangular open frame 1, 2, 3, adapted for the attachment of a truck body or agricultural implement, and wheels 7, 8 controlled from a steering column 22 at the rear of the frame, the front unit being connected to a rear axle unit having driven wheels 36, 37, an engine 65, a change-speed gear and a driver's seat 4, and the connection between the units being formed by a longitudinal pivot pin 38. As shown to the rear end of the frame member 2 is secured a casing 188, Fig. 4, which is connected by a tubular element 5 to the end 6 of the frame member 1. The rear axle casing 39, Fig. 4a, carrying the engine 65 is connected to the front unit by the pin 38 and a vertical bolt 174 to allow articulation. The column 22 carries a shaft 179 having a hand wheel 21 and a sleeve 175 having a hand wheel 40. The hand wheel 21 controls articulation of the rear axle about the bolt 174 relative to the frame through a sprocket 180, a chain 181, and a sprocket 182 which with a gear 184 is mounted on a sleeve 183, the gear 184 meshing with a gear 185 carried by a shaft 186 having a threaded portion 187. Engaging the threaded portion is a nut 189 constrained to slide in a slot 30 in the casing 188 but not rotate, the nut 189 being connected by a link 192 to an arm 194 which is rigidly connected to a housing 172 rotatable about the bolt 174. The hand wheel 40 controls deflection of the wheels 7, 8 which are carried by arms 13, 14, Fig. 5, from the member 3. Steering arms 9, 10 are connected by track rods 19, 20 to an arm 18 pivoted to the member 3. The arm 18 is connected by a link 17 to bell crank lever 34 carrying a nut 33. The nut 33 engages a threaded portion 32 of a shaft 28 carrying a chain sprocket 178 which is driven through a chain 177 and a sprocket 176 by the wheel 40. The tracks of the front and rear wheels are adjustable (see Group XXXII).
