[Classes 79 (i), 79 (iii), 79 (iv) and 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] In an agricultural tractor with two driving and two steering wheels each steering wheel is independently supported by a rocking lever and one steering wheel has an alternative position for mounting at the rear part of the chassis in which rear position it is in a common vertical plane with and on the same side of the chassis as the front steering wheel. The common vertical plane may include the driving wheel on that side. Each of the steering wheels 5, 6 is mounted in a fork 14 carried on a stem 15, which is mounted in a box 16 formed in levers 7 or 8 pivotally mounted at 9 or 10 to the tractor frame 1. The gauge is varied by swinging the lever 7 or 8, which can be locked in position by bolts 13 through holes 12 on the frame 1. In a modification each stem 15 may be mounted between a pair of arms which are pivoted to the frame in the previous manner. The weight of the vehicle on each wheel 7, 8 is taken by a spring 17 between the box 16 and the stem 15 which may be helical as shown, or leaf, or torsional. Steering arms 19 are keyed to the stems 15 and are connected to half track-rods 23, 24 which are pivoted at 25 to a lever 26 which is joined to a sprocket wheel 28 mounted on a vertical shaft 27 on the frame 1. Movement of a hand wheel 29 is transmitted to the steering wheels 5, 6 through another sprocket 30 on the steering column and a chain 31 to the sprocket wheel 28. The half track-rods 23, 24 may be either telescopic tubes, or the fastening between the arms 19 and the rods may be adjustable, or different lengths of rod may be used. The arms 19 follow the vertical movement of the frame 1 by means of a flange 21 on the box 16. It may be necessary to provide alternative positions of the arms 19 for narrow gauges of the wheels 5, 6. The assembly formed by one of the steering wheels (5 for instance) and its lever 7 is detachable from the pivot 9 and the wheel transferred to 32, the lever in that case being fixed at 33 and 34. Steering in this case is as before to the wheel 6 which transmits the movement by an arm 22, a rod 35, a pivoted lever .36 to a rod 38 to the wheel 32. The seat 39 may swivel to face the direction of travel or a second seat may be provided. A motor with variable speeds in either direction is under the frame 1 on the axle 2. If a gas producer or petrol tank 40 is fitted, it is placed as shown in Fig. 1 to give an unobstructed view. An adjustable couping hook 42 is fitted. If the tractor is required for ploughing, it may be equipped to accommodate at the front and at the rear a carried plough of the throw-over or balance type.
