Abstract
461,341. Motor machines for working land. ROTARY CULTIVATORS, Ltd., and MUIRSON, K. J. May 11, 1936, No. 11490 /35. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Group XXXI] In cultivating apparatus steered by a man walking behind it and comprising a frame supported on two driven wheels and carrying an engine and a rotary cultivator, a transverse countershaft is driven direct from the engine and can be placed in driving connection with the wheels and with the transversely disposed rotary cultivator, the displaceable pinions of a variable speed drive between the countershaft and the driving wheels being slidably mounted on the countershaft, and the whole of the variable speed gearing lying on one side of the wheel axle whilst the engine alone lies on the opposite side to counterbalance the weight. The countershaft 13 is driven from the engine 5 through bevel gearing 11, 12, a shaft 10, and a clutch controlled from the handles 9. The wheels 1 are driven from the shaft 13 through a change-speed gear - box 15 and spur gearing 20, 21, a handcrank 16 being provided for turning the shaft 13 to start the engine. The cultivator shaft 25 is driven from the shaft 13 through gearing 22, 23, 24 and an overload clutch 31. The cultivator blades are detachably connected to hub flanges 26 on the shaft 25. The rear end of the frame 4 is supported by an adjustable trailer wheel.
