Abstract

450,535. Machines for working land. COLLINS, C. M., Barochan, Houston, Renfrewshire. Dec. 4,1935,No. 34800/34. [Class 6 (i)] In a scarifier in which the tine-holder rotates in work about a vertical axis, with the tines moving orbitally around that axis, the tineholder comprises tine-carrying arms which are movable vertically against the pressure of coiled compression springs, so that the tines may rise and fall on undulating land. The machine shown consists of a wheeled vehicle propelled by an engine mounted on it and guided by a man walking behind it and grasping trams or handle-bars 11. Looped spring-steel tines 6 are carried by radially opposed arms 5 mounted on a bar 7 connected to a vertical shaft 4. The arms 5 are movable vertically within yokes 8 against the action of adjustable springs 9. They may also yield to torque exercised by the tines 6. A dome-shaped member 10 is attached to the underside of the bar 7. The shaft 4 is driven by bevel and belt gearing from a countershaft 15 driven from the engine by a belt 14. The travelling wheels 3 are provided with independently controlled clutches.
