Abstract

774,218. Disintegrating vegetation. MASON, C. Oct. 20, 1955 [Oct. 20, 1954], No. 30223/54. Classes 6(1) and 6(3). A vegetation-disintegrator comprises one or more shafts rotatable about a vertical axis or axes and having attached thereto lengths of chain. As shown in Figure 1, the shaft 7 is carried by bearings 6 on a plate 5 forming part of a frame 2 carried by tractor lift-links. The shaft 7 carries a pulley 8 at its upper end by which it is driven from the power take-off. Two discs 10 at the lower end of the shaft 7 are spaced apart by coned members 12 forming anchorages for shackles 13, 14 to which are attached the chains 15. The chains terminate in spikes 16. Several shafts 7 may be mounted on a frame and may be surrounded by a guard of canvas.. The shafts may be inclinable in a longitudinal plane. According to the Provisional Specification, the chain-carrying structure is mounted directly on the tractor power take-off pulley. A rake, for lifting the vegetation, may be mounted in front of the chains.
