Abstract

984,351. Agrictultural implements. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 10, 1961 [Sept. 2, 1960], No. 30272/60. Heading A1B. An implement particularly for ridging soil comprises pairs of helical screwblades 3b carried on shafts 2 rotatably mounted in casings 4, the blades of each pair being oppositely handed so that the soil is thrust laterally to both sides of the casing. The shafts 2 are coupled to a main shaft 5 driven by chain and sprocket wheel drive 8a, 8b from a bevel gear box 9a and reversing gear box 9b, the gear box 9a being connected to the power take-off shaft of a tractor. The framework 1 is carried by depth-adjustable wheels 11 which may also be carried by mountings 14 at the rear of the frame. Variation in the width of the furrows is obtained by lateral adjustment of the angle irons 8 supporting the casings 4. A share 13a and steerage fin 13b are attached to each casing. The implement may be in the form of a wheeled trailer towed by a tractor and may have its own power units for driving the blades. The drive to the shaft 5 may be reversed and the blades of each pair interchanged so that the implement may be used as a cultivator.
