[Class 6 (i)] A rotary cultivator comprises a frame 7 having a coupling 3 for attachment to a tractor A, the frame being provided with detachable end plates 35, 42, carrying ground wheels 31, 32 and having a spiral cutter rotatably mounted between the end plates, the cutter being driven through powertransmission mechanism 20, 21 from a power take-off on the tractor. The tractor A is provided with the usual hydraulically-operated lifting links 1 which are resiliently attached by rods 22, 23 to brackets 28, 29 on the forwardly-converging draft members 5. The rods 22, 23 constitute spring- loaded links, one of which, 23, is of variable length to assist in the alignment of tractor and cultivator. The frame 7 comprises angle iron members secured to end plates 10, 11, to which plates the detachable end plates 35, 42, are bolted. The end plate 35 carries a disc coulter 38 in addition to the wheel 31, the other wheel 32 being formed integrally with a disc 56. Both wheels are provided with screw adjustments for height. The drive to the cutter comprises a universal coupling 18, 19 between the power take-off and a gearbox 14 mounted on the frame, whence a shaft 21 runs to a gear casing 45 carried by the end plate 42. The transmission is continued by chain gearing to a splined shaft 62 engaging the cutter shaft 57. The cutter blades are formed in two parts 58 and 59 welded together, the inner part 58 being straight, in cross-section, and nearly perpendicular to the shaft 57 and the outer part being curved and inclined more obliquely. A mudguard 17 is provided above the rotary cutter.
