Abstract

586,624. Garden tractors. DEHN, F. B. (Simplicity Manufacturing Co.). Dec. 4, 1944, No. 24187. [Classes 6 (i), 6 (ii) and 6 (iii)] A garden tractor or the like has a wheeled main frame and means whereby an implement may be attached. The frame consists of bar members 6 supported on wheel 11. Handles 20 are fixed thereto and levers attached for operating the various parts of the machine. The bars 6 are connected at the front bv a plate 8 with depending flanges 10 having two sets of notches 42, 43, with which pins 45 attached to the implement frame engage. One pair of slots 43 is horizontal on the leading vertical edges of the flanges and the other pair is vertical 42 on the lower edges of the flanges. The tractor may be wheeled into the implement and connected by screws 48 on pins 45 with spacing tubes 44 mounted on the implement structure. The traction wheel 11 is driven by a motor by a belt drive to gearing inside the wheel. Casing 26 surrounds the top of the wheel. In the case of a cultivating harrow a pilot wheel 50 is mounted on the implement structure in front of the traction wheel with draw bars 51, 52 extending rearwardly with a removable yoke 52<SP>1</SP> at the rear. Tools are adjustably mounted on these drawbars and connection is made with the controlling mechanism by links 55 on to levers 34 attached to shaft 27 which can be rotated by the screw action of the nut 35 or by pulling lever 40 mounted on shaft 31. The handles are adjustable as to height on stays 24 by nuts 25 in appropriate holes. A drive is transmitted by a belt tightener 29 operated by links 32 and levers 28, 30, journalled on shafts 27 and 31 respectively. A mowing machine may be attached with a drive transmitted to the blades. In this case the action of levers 34 is transferred to a second belt tightener. Similarly a reaping machine may be attached, including a reciprocating mechanism for working the blades over one another which is again driven by the belt and the action of levers 34 is used as a belt tightener.
