Abstract

774,596. Agricultural implements. SMITH, L. S. July 21, 1955 [July 21, 1954], No. 21257/54. Class 6(1). In a rotary cultivator provided with tines or tools mounted on a mechanically driven transverse shaft 3, a skid or plate 12 designed to run beneath the surface of the ground is provided for regulating the working depth of the tools and is carried on a lever 13 pivotally attached to the machine at a point in front of the axis of rotation of the tools and extending rearwards and beneath the axes. As shown the lever is adjusted by means of a screw and clamping nut 15 adjustable along the length of a slot 16 and connected by a link 17 to an extension arm 18 of the lever 13. The cultivator is attached to a two-wheeled tractor and the shaft 3 is carried by a hollow driving shaft 6 which is supported in a gear case 7 attached to the frame 8 of the tractor. The shaft 3 extends on either side of the case 7 and is locked to the shaft 6 by means of plates 9 which carry the tines 4 and engage in slots in the shaft 6. The shaft 3 is interchangeable with other shafts of different lengths and designed to carry different numbers of tines.
