Abstract

622.358. Agricultural implements. GIRLING, A. H. G. Aug. 17, 1946. No. 27602/47. Divided out of 622,278. [Class 6(i)] A hoeing implement comprises a pair of power-driven rotary hoes A and B mounted on a transverse bar 15 and laterally adjustable thereon so that the hoes can be set to straddle a row of plants. In the form shown, the machine comprises a motor 10 mounted on a driven wheel 11, with which it may be connected through clutch mechanism, and on an auxiliary wheel 20. The machine is manually guided by handles incorporating a twist-grip control described in Specification 622,359. Rotary hoeing units A and B are mounted on a transverse bar 15 along which they may be adjusted to straddle the rows of plants. Each hoeing unit includes hoe blades 251 on a transverse axle 25, the axle being driven by a chain drive 301, within a casing 28, from a sprocket 30 slidable along a splined shaft 31 directly connected to the power take-off of the motor. The depth of working of the tools is limited by a wheel 38 pivoted on an arm 37 mounted on the hoeing unit A and carrying a detent 35 the teeth 351 of which engage a pawl 321 retractible by means of the twist-grip control on the handles. To alter the working depth the entire machine is rocked about the land-wheel axis and the pawl disengaged from the detent. Mudguards 26 are provided on the hoeing units.
