Abstract

831,892. Agricultural implements. SIMPSON, H. A. April 26, 1957 [April 30, 1956], No.13396/57. Class 6(1). A cultivating machine comprises a series of circular cutters 124 mounted face to face in a driven shaft 40 and a driving disc 136 rigidly fixed to the shaft, the drive being transmitted from the disc to one of the cutters 124<SP>1</SP> by pins which extend from the disc and engage in spaced holes in the cutter the drive being transmitted from the end cutter 124<SP>1</SP> to the remaining cutters by annular spacer pieces 130 mounted between the cutters the disc, cutters and spacer pieces being clamped together by a nut 140 on the shaft. As shown in Fig. 1, the disc assembly is mounted on a frame 12 connected to a tractor 4 to project laterally with a forward inclination beyond the side of the tractor, the disc assembly being mounted on a channel member 26 which is pivoted by a bolt 28 to a frame 22 connected to an hydraulically operated linkage 8 on a tractor. The disc assembly is driven from the tractor power shaft 6 through a gear box 30. When working the machine rests on adjustable skids 60, 64. For transport purposes, the disc assembly and channel member 26 are pivoted in the bolt 28 to a position shown in dotted lines, a pin 72 on the frame being attached to a stay 70 which stay engages a pin 68 when the machine is in a working position. The disc assembly is partially covered by a hood 50. In a modification the frame part carrying the gear box 30 extends transversely to the tractor, only the frame part carrying the disc assembly being situated at an angle to the tractor.
