Abstract

763,898. Agricultural implements. MAGNIER, R. Jan. 7, 1955, No. 595/55. Class 6(1). A machine for thinning seedlings comprises a cradle 7 articulated to a wheeled chassis 1 and a mechanically driven rotary hoeing member 15 which rests in the cradle and is displaced vertically in relation to the cradle by means of a solenoid 28. As shown the core 27 of the solenoid 28 is connected by means of a sleeve 26 to the driving shaft 17 of the hoeing member. A bearing housing 23 mounted on the shaft 17 is provided with two lateral arms which rest on the cradle and the housing may be moved along the shaft to vary the working depth of the hoeing member. The cradle is provided with skids 13 and a handle-bar 11 and is guided by an operator seated in a seat 6 who also operates the solenoid by means of a hand switch. The hoeing member 15 comprises a disc which may be convex, concave or plane and is provided with blades 16, a mudguard on the cradle partially enclosing the disc. The solenoid raises the disc to clear the plants that are to remain in the ground. Three discs and cradles are mounted on the chassis and the shafts are all driven from the tractor power shaft. A crossbar 33 is mounted on uprights 32 fixed to the chassis and the cradles are suspended by chains 34 when travelling along roads. The solenoids are connected in parallel and are energized from two batteries connected to a generator.
