Abstract

802,866. Agricultural implements. SMITHBURN, G. E. July 22, 1957, No. 23100/57. Class 6(1). A rotary cultivator comprising cultivating blades 12 mounted in front of a pair of landwheels 17 is provided with an adjustable drag stake 19 providing with the blades 12 an initial support for the machine with the wheels 17, which are freely rotatable, clear of the ground. The stake 19 can be adjusted to determine the depth of cultivation of the blades 12. As shown in Fig. 1, no forward motion occurs until the blades have dug to the depth for which the stake is set. When this occurs the wheels will contact the ground and the machine will move forward until the wheels are clear of the ground when the blades will commence digging again. A motor 18 drives the blades 12 by means of a belt and pulley drive 83 and a vertical shaft mounted in a casing 26. A jockey pulley 86 acts as a clutch and is moved by a handle 92. The wheels 17 are vertically adjustable by means of bolts 42 engaging in holes 41 in wheel supporting members 36, Fig. 2 (not shown). The stake 19 is adjustably mounted in a bracket 54 adjustably carried by an arm 53 pivoted in the machine.
