1412192 Hay making machines C VAN DER LELY NV 9 Jan 1973 [12 Jan 1972] 1196/73 Heading A1F A hay making machine having two rotary rake members supported by a beam 1, is drawn over the ground by draft elements 32 welded to plates 30 bolted to the ends of the beam 1. The machine is supported by ground wheels mounted on the bent-over ends of the shafts 6 of the rake members, the shafts 6 being inclined forwardly and upwardly but lying in vertical planes. The draft elements 32 may be secured (as shown) to a coupling member 34 (Fig. 3) for connection to a tractor three-point hitch, or may be provided with a draw hook for coupling to a tractor tow bar. An input shaft 22 is driven from the tractor power-take-off by a telescopic shaft and carries a bevel pinion 21 meshing with a bevel pinion 20 secured to a shaft 11 within the beam 1. The outer end of the shaft 11 carries a further bevel pinion 15 meshing with a bevel pinion 14A secured to a hub which is rotatable on the fixed shaft 6 and which has tine supports 29 welded to it. The splined inner end 16A of the shaft 11 is received in a splined socket 17 fastened to a shaft 18 driving the other rake member. Play between the splines avoids the need for accuracy in positioning the bearings of the shafts 11 and 18. The sheet-steel beam 1 comprises an inverted channel 2 with out turned lips 3 and closed at the bottom by a channel 4 fitting within it and supported by collars 26.
