Abstract

586,880. Swath turners. MARTIN'S CULTIVATOR CO., Ltd., and JONES, E. L. July 21, 1944, No. 13981. [Class 6 (iii)] Means for swath turning and side delivery raking comprises two machines 1, 2, each having a single device for turning a swath and each being coupled to a single drawbar 28. The machine 1 has two travelling wheels 3, 4 keyed to an axle 5 upon which is rotatably mounted a device 6, the latter having secured to it one end of a shaft 7 whose cranked portion 8 is secured to a wheel supported bracket 9. A clutch 12 on shaft 5 can drive a pinion 13 which meshes with a pinion 14 on a tube 15 surrounding shaft 7, and the other end of the tube carries the flyer comprising plates 16, 17, and rake heads 18. The bracket 9 is connected by frame 19, 20, to sleeve 21 on axle 5, and bosses 22, 23 on the axle are connected to a draw plate 26. The other machine 2 is similarly constructed but is somewhat shorter, and the draw plates of the two machines are connected to the drawbar 28 connected to a tractor or to a pair of shafts. In use the machine 2 delivers its swath into the path of machine 1 which then delivers this swath together with the swath which was already in its path, to the side of the machine. To use the machines for swath turning their positions on the drawbar are reversed.
