Abstract
541,610. Side-delivery rakes. BAMFORD, C. J., and BAMFORD, H. V. Oct. 4, 1940, No. 14860. [Class 6 (iii)] In a side-delivery rake of the kind having a rakedriving shaft crossing the road axle in a fore-and-aft direction and driven by bevel gearing from the road axle or from a road wheel, the bevel gearing is enclosed in a casing having a hollow body 10 which extends under the gearing and has end walls 21, 22, and side walls 18, 19. The side walls each have the whole or part of a bearing for the road wheel axle 13 and the end walls each have a bearing for the rake-driving shaft 25 and are provided with guides 32 for a reciprocating slide 31 which carries forks for two clutches or for a clutch and a bevel pinion sliding on the shaft 25. As shown the shaft 25 carries pinions 30, which gear respectively with an inner and outer set of skew teeth on a wheel 12 on the axle 13. One of the pinions is looss on the shaft but connectable thereto by a clutch 27 while the other is keyed to the shaft but is brought into gear by sliding along it. The casing is provided with a centre-bearing 26 for the shaft 25, which incorporates a bearing for the shaft 13. The slide 31 is connected by bolts 34 to a parallel bar 33, the position of which is controlled by a lever 39, moved over a quadrant 37 fixed to a lug 36 on the casing. One side wall of the casing is provided with a pair of lugs to which frame members of the machine are attached.
