Abstract

538,363. Epicyclic gearing. BOWEN, L. G. Dec. 29, 1939, No. 33041. [Class 80 (i)] Co-axial with a stationary annular member 10 is a driving shaft 13 to which are pinned two wheels, 14, 16 between which is a collar 17 having a race for balls 19 which, together with balls 27 in a race 28 in the member 10, support a central plate 20. The wheel 14 meshes with wheels 31 carried by shafts 30 on the plate 20 and these in turn mesh with a gear ring 29 fixed to the member 10. The plate 20 also has a pair of shafts 32 which carry wheels 33 meshing with the wheel 16 and with a gear ring 34 rotatably mounted in the member 10 and to which is secured by screws 41 a side plate 39 integral with a driven shaft 42. A second side plate 43 is secured by screws 45 to the member 10 which, with the side plates, form a chamber which may be packed with grease. According to the numbers of teeth employed in the wheels the shaft 42 may be driven, at reduced speed, in a direction the same as or opposite to that of the shaft 13.
