Abstract
672,230. Differential gearing. RICARDO, H. R., and COUSINS, R. J. W. Nov. 30, 1950 [Dec. 22, 1949], No. 32851/49. Class 80 (ii). In bevel differential gearing, each of a pair of co-axial planet wheels E, F, meshing with sun wheels A, A' secured to shafts A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP> and mounted in a carrier D journalled on the shafts A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP>, is rigidly connected to amass lying on the side of the axis of the shafts A<SP>2</SP>, A' remote from the planet wheel, so that the centrifugal force acting on the planet wheel due to the rotation of the carrier is partially or wholly or overbalanced. The planet F is secured to a sleeve F' supported at the outer end by a bearing F<SP>2</SP> in the carrier and extending inwards across the axis of the shafts A<SP>2</SP>, A', the inner end of the sleeve having secured thereto an annular mass G and being supplied adjacent the mass by a bearing F' in a cross piece D<SP>4</SP> of the carrier. The planet E, supported by a bearing E' in the carrier, is secured on a shaft E' which extends through the sleeve F' and which has secured thereto, outside the carrier, an annular mass G', the shaft E' being supported in a bearing E<SP>4</SP> between the mass G' and the bearing F'. The shafts A', A<SP>3</SP> may be independent driving shafts, power being transmitted from the carrier D by a gear wheel H secured thereto.
