Abstract

565,078. Variable-speed gearing. HENLEY'S TELEGRAPH WORKS CO., Ltd:, W. T,. GRIFFITHS, F. T., and BUCKLE, R. P. S. April 21, 1943, No. 6369. [Class 80 (ii)] Pairs of gearing members 16 are rotatably mounted on a carrier member 12 at equal distances from a central sleeve 8 which is axially slidable within and rotatable with a hub 5 of a hand wheel 7. The members 16 of each pair are interconnected by chain, rope, or spur gearing and the axles 15 thereof have pin-andslot driving connection 25 with driving and driven shafts 22, 23 respectively. A lever 36 is pivoted at 38 to the gear casing 2 and has a pin- and - slot connection 34 with the sleeve 8. Thus, operation of the lever 36 will disconnect the couplings 25, whereupon, the member 12 may be rotated to align a different pair of members 16 with the shafts 22, 23, and upon release of the lever 36 a spring 30 will move the member 12 to re-engage the couplings 25. In a modification the driving and driven shafts lie on the surface of a cone the axis of which is coincident'with the axis of the carrier. In this case bevel gearing is used.
