713,847. Toothed gearing. GLENNY, A. P., and SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd. June 23. 1952 [June 22, 1951], No. 14852/51. Class 80 (1) To ensure correct depth of mesh when a gear 1 is brought into engagement with a gear 2 by swinging of the shaft 3, each gear has secured thereto a ring 7, 8 of pitch circle diameter and the rings are held in rolling contact by a spring 11 bearing against the end of the shaft. The shaft 3 is supported at one end by a pivotal bearing and at the other end by a slot in. a fixed plate carrying the spring 11. According to the Provisional Specification two bevel gears are brought into mesh by axial movement of one of the shafts. each gear having attached thereto a single, or a pair of frustro-conical rings corresponding to the respective pitch surfaces, and the movable shaft is spring-loaded to hold the rings in rolling contact.
