[Class 80 (ii).] Variable-speed gearing comprises an alternatively engageable clutch in which a single ball u shrouded into a shaft n engages between two balls s shrouded into the inside surface of a wheel boss, such as q. In the arrangement shown, loose wheels q, j, k, m each have three axially-set pairs of shrouded balls s which run on the shaft n like a ball bearing with a space r between. The shaft n has one ring of three protruding balls u which by the axial motion of the shaft n can be brought into the medial plane of any wheel, such as j, Fig. 1.
