Abstract
325,431. Henderson, A., and Anderson, H. P. H. April 29, 1929. Epicyclic gearing.-A reduction gear, operable when the driving or driven shafts are aligned or at right angles, comprises a bevel epicyclic system which derives a relatively slow rotation from bevel wheels driven at slightly different speeds in opposite directions by the driving-shaft. The driving-shaft 11 rotating in a casing 1 has bevel wheels 9, 10 driving at slightly different speeds in opposite directions the bevel wheels 7, 8 formed solid with wheels 5, 6 gearing with the planet bevels 4, 4 rotating freely on trunnions or carriers 3, 3 secured to the driven shaft 2. In a straight-line drive, the shaft 12 drives and the shaft 2 is driven, the double bevel wheels 9, 10 rotating freely with their shaft 11 in the casing 1. Should the casing be required to rotate, the shaft 2 is held fixed at 13 and the drive is applied to the shaft 12.
