Abstract

416,331. Variable speed gearing. DELL, C., 25, Swing Gate Lane, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, and READ, H. L., Herington Grove, Hutton Mount, Essex. Sept. 15, 1933, No. 25604. [Class 80 (ii).] In a variable-speed gear comprising epicyclic trains 6, 7 and 8 giving different forward speeds, the annuli of these trains being fixed in a rotatably mounted casing 1 with a brake 5, the casing is normally held stationary and the various speeds obtained by clutching the driven shaft 11, by means of a ball or roller clutch 13, to any of the sun wheels which are bored out to equal diameters. The clutch 13 may consist of a triangular core 12 on the shaft 11 with rollers 13 held in a cage 14, the shaft 11 being moved axially to effect the engagement required.
