Abstract
415,531. Variable-speed and reversing gearing. PULS, E. F., 48, Middleton Hall Road, King's Norton, Birmingham. April 28, 1933, No. 12415. [Class 80 (ii).] In series with an epicyclic change-speed gear comprising braked trains d, e, &c. (three shown), is a three-element epicyclic reversing- train, having an annulus t, splined on the final driven-shaft f and sliding axially, together with a planet-carrier m, to clutch teeth q on the planet-carrier with fixed casing-teeth r for reverse, or to engage clutch-teeth v on the annulus with teeth w on a sun-wheel j, keyed to the gear-output shaft b, for a solid forward drive. Between the annulus and an operating- collar x on its boss is an enclosing-flange y secured to the planet-carrier to cause these elements to slide together. The planet-carrier may float freely, as shown, or it may bear on the sun-wheel and annulus. The shafts b, f are spigoted together, with a roller bearing h therebetween. There is a lubricating-pipe z. The reversing-gear may be controlled independently of, or conjointly with, the change-speed gear.
